Corby Boy Harry Reid Who Has Duchenne, A Life Limiting Muscle Wasting Condition – 2k Parkrun Challenge

A Massive Shout out to Harry Reid!

Harry took on the Wicksteed junior parkrun this morning Sunday 6th July 2025 despite the rain. He completed the 2k in 30 minutes and 8 seconds. Harry wants to be like any other boy and do what others do.

Harry has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy a life limiting, muscle wasting condition. For the last four years Harry and his family have fundraised to take Harry to America to slow down the progression of this condition which leads to loss of the ability to walk and complete paralysis. At present there is no cure and it is 100% fatal. They do challenges to help raise awareness as it is a rare genetic condition.

Harry has battled against Duchenne a cruel muscle wasting condition all his life and knows that one day he will stop being able to walk. Harry showed great strength and resilience today and we could not be prouder of him. A 2k for Harry is like a full marathon for us. Before Harry was diagnosed he did a parkrun run at the age of five. His time then was 26:04. Children don’t normally get slower but get stronger and faster.

They also are campaigning for the NHS to end a postcode lottery on a new drug called Givinostat that could give boys like Harry another two years of walking and life. Currently Birmingham University Hospital trust will not give out the medicine Givinostat due to the cost of administering it despite getting it for free from the company.
