All-day Tomb Raider event in Derby to celebrate Lara Croft’s 25th birthday

The Quad has announced it will host an all-day event to mark the 25th birthday of Derby’s own Lara Croft.

On Saturday, October 23, fans are invited to celebrate a quarter of a century of success for the Tomb Raider franchise.

The occasion will give enthusiasts the chance to meet the people who created Tomb Raider, as well as the woman who voiced Lara Croft in the second and third games.

Writer Luke Earle, one of the event organisers, said: “It’s important to remember that Lara Croft, one of the most iconic gaming characters, started life in Derby.

“This event is a chance to celebrate the Tomb Raider franchise with those who made the games.”

Attendees are set to enjoy a range of events throughout the day.

These include:

  • An in-conversation event with Judith Gibbins, the voice of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider 2 and 3.
  • A screening of Lara Croft: Lethal and Loaded (2001), a documentary covering the story of Lara Croft, from her creation through to her ascension as a cultural icon.
  • A video showcase and Q&A with Steve Of Warr, the YouTuber who’s been taking an in-depth look at the Tomb Raider franchise.
  • A discussion with Daryl Baxter about his new book, The Making of Tomb Raider, with special guests Heather Stevens (Tomb Raider 1 and 2 level designer), Susie Hamilton (public relations manager at Core Design), Peter Barnard (FMV and additional artwork), plus a special reading by Judith Gibbins. Additional guests are to be confirmed.

“TR25 – Celebrating 25 Years of Tomb Raider” takes place at the Quad on Saturday, October 23, and runs from 11am to 5pm. Tickets are £25 and all ticket holders will receive an exclusive £5 discount off the book The Making of Tomb Raider.
