A local hospice has opened a new shop in Matlock which promises to offer customers huge savings on clothing.
Ashgate Hospice has opened a clearing clothing shop in the town, allowing shoppers to grab a bargain for as little as £1.
The charity, which provides end-of-life care to patients in palliative care across North Derbyshire, opened the clearance shop today (February 10) to help it to continue to raise the funds it needs to carry out its vital work.
Ashgate already has 14 shops and three coffee shops across North Derbyshire but the Matlock store will be the first clothing-only Clearance shop for the hospice.
It will specialise in selling clothing that has failed to sell in its other stores, including shops in Matlock, Hasland, Bakewell and Shirebrook.
There will be womenswear, menswear, children’s clothing and accessories on offer, with prices expected to range from £1 to £3.
Laura Stevens, head of retail operations, said: “Ashgate Hospice has always been innovative in the way it operates – we have to be, because of the amount of money we need to raise each year.”
She added: “We have to rely on the generosity of people in our local area – through both our fundraising efforts and charity shops.
“But we’re fortunate to have a wonderful community around us, full of generous supporters, who assist us and our charity shops by donating goods, shopping with us and even volunteering to help run our shops.”
Each year Ashgate Hospice needs to raise £7m to continue its services in North Derbyshire and £3m of this comes from its charity shops.
The hospice is also looking for volunteers to handle donations, serve customers and maintain the general upkeep of its stores.
One such volunteer is Audrey Garlick, who volunteers at the Dronfield shop.
Audrey said: “I wanted to give something back to the community and do something to help others. Volunteering in Ashgate’s shop was perfect for me. I love everything about it, I really do – I look forward to the days I go in and the customers who I get to meet.
“At the shop, I get involved in everything from tidying the displays, pricing up items and welcoming our wonderful supporters who generously make donations to us. And it’s so rewarding knowing I’m doing my bit to support care for families all over North Derbyshire.”
