Best pubs in the Peak District according to TripAdvisor

The Peak District is well known for its natural beauty, national parks and romantic walks.

But it is also home to a number of brilliant pubs that customers are simply raving about, and it can make the choice of where to go much more difficult.

We have compiled a list of TripAdvisor’s top rated Peak District pubs to make the choice between good food and great beer inconsequential.

You can have it all at these top ten public houses and restaurants in the Peak District:

10 – Bradmans Wine Cellar

19 Dale Road, Matlock

With 17 reviews culminating in an average rating of five stars, the Bradmans Wine Cellar, in Matlock, definitely seems like the perfect place to visit.

Whilst food options are limited to charcuterie and cheese boards, according to reviews, it’s the drinks that fly out of the doors here.

Bottles of wine in its online store range from £15 to £320, meaning there’s something for everyone here.

A “fantastic atmosphere” and “incredible staff” are just some of the comments customers make after visiting this well-loved bar.

9 – The Rising Sun

471 Fulwood Road, Sheffield

Coming in at number nine of TripAdvisor’s list of the best Peak District pubs, The Rising Sun, in Sheffield, is open from 11.30am until 10pm, offering a wide variety of food options and drinks.

With a new Winter Menu for 2022, it’s the perfect time to try any of the delicious options on offer here.

With food available from 12pm until 9pm on Tuesday to Saturday, and 12pm until 8pm on Sunday, there’s something for everyone here too.

From sandwiches to pub classics to accompany your choice of wine or beer, you’re sure to find something to suit.

8 – Ohm Food Yard

8 Fitzwilliam Street, Sheffield

As well as being a popular pub, this Sheffield-based establishment also offers cocktail making classes for customers keen to learn more about the trade.

Specialising in a variety of street food vendors and cocktails, there’s something for everyone here.

If you’re looking for pizza, Mexican, Thai or Portuguese style food, this is the place for you.

Opening hours vary through the week depending on the food vendor, but all of which appear to be popular with loyal TripAdvisor customers.

7 – The Greenman public house

10 St John Street, Ashbourne

Open from 12pm until 11pm, this pub is one of Ashbourne’s finest, and sits at number 7 on TripAdvisor’s list of the best pubs in the Peak District.

Catering for vegetarian diets, this pub offers a wide variety of appetisers as well as main course and dessert options for those looking for a sit down meal.

With 116 reviews on the website, customers rave about the pub’s “excellent service” and “fantastic venue”.

Located on John Street, this seems to be the place to go if you ever find yourself in Ashbourne looking for somewhere to go.

6 – The Head of Steam

103-107 Norfolk Street, Sheffield

With almost 400 reviews on TripAdvisor averaging out at 4.5 stars, Sheffield’s Head of Steam is a hit with customers.

Serving food until 9pm, as well as on food delivery services, a wide variety of options are available for all dietary needs.

“Brilliant” and “very knowledgeable” staff only add to the experience of this pub, giving it its high rating.

One review also commended the pub’s provision of Belgian beer, supporting the idea that this establishment certainly offers a wide selection of drinks for its customers.

Open from 12pm until 11pm, this pub seems to be a hit with almost all of its customers.

5 – The Quarryman (Blacks Head)

1 Market Place, Wirksworth

The Quarryman in Wirksworth has also ranked pretty highly on TripAdvisor’s list of Peak District pubs.

A “friendly pub” and “the best pub in Wirksworth” according to some reviews, it certainly seems to be popular with previous customers.

The addition of a beer garden and great selection of beers also brings in the customers from the local area, as well as others passing through.

Located in the Market Place in Wirksworth, this pub is open from 12pm until 11pm.

4 – The Big Tree

842 Chesterfield Road, Sheffield

The Big Tree in Chesterfield Road, Sheffield, is a hit with customers and it’s easy to see why.

Visitors to this pub commend its great selection of food and drinks and friendly staff, which is probably why it has been rated so highly on TripAdvisor’s list.

“Amazing service” and a “fantastic sports pub” are just some of the comments made in reviews by previous customers.

Open from 11am to 10pm (11pm on Sundays), this Greene King pub offers a multitude of food options to go along with a great selection of drinks.

Free parking and free wifi is also available for customers at this Peak District pub.

3 – Red Willow

1 Cavendish Circus, Buxton

Located in Buxton, this pub is open between 4pm and 11pm on most days of the week.

As well as being a dog and family friendly bar, the Red Willow offers a wide selection of beers on tap for thirsty customers.

Their brewery was first started in 2010, before they went on to offer their own beer on tap and in bottles for customers.

With some customers saying they didn’t realise the bar existed because it was so small, the quality of the product seems to make up for this fact.

Bar food and limited other food options are also available until they run out.

2 – The Beer Engine

17 Cemetery Road, Sheffield

A “brilliant atmosphere” and “great beer destination” are just some of the things that visitors to the Beer Engine say about this establishment.

Coming in as the runner up on TripAdvisor’s list of the best Peak District pubs, this outlet in Sheffield prides itself on being perfect for a quick bite to eat and complementary food alongside some great drinks.

With the welcome of a beer garden, this pub is also able to serve roast dinners on a Sunday, until they run out of food.

Other food options are limited to tapas to compliment their drinks, but this is still a welcome addition.

1 – The Fishpond, Matlock

204 South Parade, Matlock Bath

Open from 12pm until 11pm, The Fishpond tops TripAdvisor’s list of the best pubs in the Peak District, and with good reason.

With 916 reviews and an average rating of 4 stars, there’s plenty for these customers to shout about.

With plenty of food options to feed the family, including sandwiches, pizza, curry and jacket potatoes, you’re sure to find something to feed even the fussiest of eaters.

This Matlock pub also offers a range of beers, wines and spirits, alongside their selection of soft drinks.
