Derbyshire makeup artist transforms into Pennywise the clown for Halloween

She’s created a reputation as being a professional makeup artist who can transform herself into anything from football players to Disney characters, but now she’s turned to terrifying her audience.

Rachel Jessica, from Chesterfield, is a senior makeup artist at Embellish Hair and Makeup and has turned her talents to creating some incredible designs on her own face.

Her social media accounts are full of all sorts of weird and wonderful creations, including turning herself into the likes of Gareth Southgate and Harry Kane to mark England’s run to the final of the Euros in the summer.

Now she’s come up with some truly terrifying designs just in time for Halloween.

She said: “I started doing it last year, for Halloween, and it did really well so I always knew I was going to do something for Halloween, so I’m just trying to keep on top of doing looks that I enjoy doing rather than doing them for the sake of it.

“It’s a really good time of year for a makeup artist to showcase a little bit more than just doing a brown smokey eye.”

So far Rachel has turned herself into a lava skull, a character from Squid Games and, perhaps most terrifying of all, Pennywise the Dancing Clown complete with a spooky video showing the transformation as it happened.

She said: “I’ve seen a couple of other people doing Pennywise but not going down the neck so I thought I’d give it a go and to be fair I really enjoyed doing that one, I spent about three or four hours in my own little world turning myself into a weird clown.”

For Rachel, it’s the challenge of doing the transformations which really appeal to her.

She said: “On a day-to-day basis when I’m at work I don’t do things like prosthetics or turn people into characters, I’m just doing the makeup for a wedding or a night out.

“So it gives me more of a creative challenge. I’m not trained in prosthetics or special effects, it’s just giving things a go.”

Among the designs Rachel has transformed herself into include this Lava Skull

The reaction she’s had from people has been amazing, but she says the requests are pouring in from people ahead of October 31.

She said: “Everyone at work laughs at me and all of the other girls are like ‘oh for God’s sake Rachel you’ve done this look now and people are going to want that and I don’t how we’re going to do it’.

“We are fully booked for Halloween weekend and we have had people bringing in the photos but we don’t really have time to do what I did on that one.”

Rachel says she does have more transformations planned ahead of Halloween and she’ll continue doing other characters in the run-up to Christmas and beyond.
