Derbyshire’s first-ever single malt whisky has sold out after its first weekend on sale.
White Peak Distillery’s Wire Works Whisky has been in development since 2018 and launched on Thursday, February 3.
The Ambergate-based distillery, near Belper, produced 5,016 bottles of the whisky with around 4,000 being pre-ordered by customers and 40 retail units – including Booths, Selfridges, and House of Malt.
Mike Vaughan, co-founder of White Peak Distillery told Derbyshire Live: “We’ve been absolutely overwhelmed and humbled by the response we’ve had to last Thursday’s launch of Wire Works Whisky – our very first release of single malt whisky.
“We have now entirely sold out at the Distillery, as have most of our retail partners, which is just amazing.
“After six years of hard work and our fair share of challenges, we are delighted that our first whisky has been so well received and we’ve had such support from our followers and communities, as well as welcoming many more to the White Peak story.”
Only 15 of several hundred casks of the whisky were used to fill the bottles and White Peak Distillery plan to release more on sale throughout the year.
Mike said: “The whole White Peak Distillery team is excited about the milestone we’ve reached and our future plans.
“We will be revealing more details about more 2022 releases in the months ahead; so for those people who didn’t manage to get hold of a bottle of our first release of Wire Works Whisky, there will be other opportunities coming soon.
“In terms of our growth plans, we are looking to expand beyond the UK into both Europe and eventually the US once we have more whisky and resources.
“The focus now for our small team is to ensure that we carry on producing high quality spirit to lay down in cask, and innovate and develop as a business as well as continuing to offer a great experience through our bottled spirits and visitor experiences.
“It’s a hugely exciting time for us and we can’t wait to share more Derbyshire whisky with our various communities of supporters.”
