The heartbroken mum of Lincoln murder victim Holly Bramley has paid a touching tribute to her in a new poem – pledging she “will always be in our hearts”. Annette Bramley said Holly’s killer could never take away “her love, beauty, mind and soul”.
Holly was just 26 when she was brutally murdered by her husband Nicholas Metson at their flat in Lincoln. Metson killed his wife and, with the help of his friend Joshua Hancock, disposed of her body parts in a river in March 2023.
Metson was sentenced to a minimum of 19 years and 316 days in prison at Lincoln Crown Court for the murder and for perverting the course of justice. Hancock was given a sentence of three years and three months in prison.
Annette is now working with Lincolnshire Police and the Lincolnshire Domestic Abuse Specialist Service to deliver a campaign in Holly’s memory. She hopers to raise awareness and promote help and support for domestic abuse victims.
As part of the campaign, she has shared the pain of her daughter’s loss in a specially-penned poem, “Now the pain has gone away”. Annette tells how Metson took away Holly’s “hopes, dreams, her youth” – but the poem ends with a note of defiance, saying Holly “will live on in spite of him” and her killer “no longer has a say”.
The poem, “Now the pain has gone away”, can be read in full below:
“Now the pain has gone away” – a poem remembering Holly Bramley
He took away her innocence
Her hopes, her dreams, her youth
He took from her most everything
Now we’re left to face the truth
His words would take her from family
The ones she loved before
He made her think he was the only one
To give her happiness and more
But truth be told, he had a plan
To control, to take away her being
The world grew dull, she could not see
The monster stopped her from fleeing
Is that what he wanted all along?
“I win. You lose” – a game!
Control, submission, guilt, defeat
Now her spirit will remain
She will live on in spite of him
He no longer has a say
Her love, her beauty, her mind, her soul
He could not take away
Rest in peace
Now the pain has gone away
God bless and sleep tight Holly
You will always be in our hearts xXx
Over the coming weeks, a “For Holly” campaign will highlight what Holly endured. The campaign aims to improve understanding of what domestic abuse is, and raise awareness of what you can do if you are suffering at the hands of an abuser.
