Huge entertainment complex aiming to bring ‘new experiences’ to Nottingham planned

There are plans to bring a large entertainment centre with “new experiences” to Nottingham.

The first ‘Urban Playground’, which has a TV game show, mini golf course and restaurant, will open on February 10 in Manchester.

But Nottingham-based Mellors Group, who are also responsible for Winter Wonderland and the Nottingham Beach in Old Market Square, have said that their home city may be getting its own version of the complex in the future.

The potential site for the attraction has not yet been revealed, but an earlier version of the plan had previously been touted to be a “fresh concept” that could bring around 100 jobs to the city.

Edward Mellors, creative director of Mellors Group said: “As a Nottingham based company, we can absolutely say that we will be looking to bring all of our new experiences into the city.”

The first complex in Manchester, which has been described by its creators as “revolutionary”, includes the THE CUBE Live, where people can play though the popular game show.

There is also a Putters mini golf course, which will have an adjoining Putters Bar serving cocktails and other drinks.

As well as award-winning burger bar THE BUTCHER which has restaurants across the globe, including in The Netherlands, Germany and Spain.

The venue will stretch over two floors and 4,000 square metres.

Mr Mellors, who is also the director of the Urban Playground project, when the Manchester site was announced, said: “Mellors Group are thrilled to launch Urban Playground at Manchester Arndale.

“The Cube Live is the first of its kind along with a state-of-the-art Tech-Infused Putters mini golf and food franchise, THE BUTCHER.

“We hope this is the first of many Urban Playground attractions to be produced across the UK and cannot wait for doors to open to the public for the very first time.”

In 2019, the idea for a similar entertainment centre at the former ISIS and Black Orchid nightclub, in Redfield Way, was expressed by the Mellors Group.

But it was decided in 2020 that the project was not viable at the site, with the company saying that it was looking locally elsewhere to open a bigger complex which could create more than the previously stated 100 jobs.
