Met Office statement as wintry showers and cold temperatures forecast for Nottingham

Nottinghamshire should expect wintry showers this week as the weather remains cold for Easter school holidays, weather experts have said. The Met Office has said conditions will be “fairly unsettled” later in the week.

There will be bright spells on Wednesday and Thursday, but with scattered showers likely, perhaps turning wintry later on. Temperatures will reach just 8/9C in Nottingham on Wednesday and Thursday (April 6 and 7).

Giving its long range forecast for the next couple of weeks, the Met Office said: “To end the week and through the weekend, it is likely to be cold in the north with wintry showers. Further south, weather systems coming in from the southwest will bring more prolonged spells of rain and strong winds.

“There is a risk of snow at times on the northern edge of the bands of rain, this mainly across central areas. Widespread frosts are expected in the north, with some icy patches likely.

“In southern areas, temperatures will be nearer to average, locally rather warm. Into the following week, it will likely remain unsettled, but with the focus for the heaviest rain and strongest winds moving towards the north and west of the UK, allowing some drier interludes in the southeast.”

Here’s the outlook from the Met Office for the week ahead in the East Midlands:

Monday:

Patchy rain soon clearing to the south. Then mainly dry and cloudy, with brighter or sunny spells in the east. Isolated outbreaks of rain and drizzle possible, mainly across western hills. Mild but breezy. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Monday night:

Cloud will thicken overnight with further outbreaks of rain and drizzle likely, mainly over hills in the west. Winds gradually easing. Minimum temperature 9 °C.

Tuesday:

Cloudy but generally dry, with a chance of showery rain confined to high ground in the west. Bright spells particularly further south. A band of rain will push southeast overnight. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Fairly unsettled. Bright spells on Wednesday and Thursday, but with scattered showers likely, perhaps turning wintry. Windy Wednesday night with a risk of coastal gales. Likely fine on Friday.
