More than 850 homes without power in Derbyshire town as Storm Dudley hits

More than 850 homes have been left without electricity in Chesterfield following a power cut as Storm Dudley batters the county with high winds.

Western Power Distribution said they were informed of a high voltage power cut at 4:03pm on Wednesday, February 16, which has left 857 homes in the S43 postcode area without electricity.

The homes affected are in the Brimington area, including Elm Street and some homes on Station Road.

WPD said that the fault is expected to be fixed by around 5:30pm and that customers who are vulnerable or who need extra support should call 0800 6783 105.

Around 90 homes are also affected in the DE4 area between Matlock and Bakewell.

The outage comes as Storm Dudley brings gusts of around 50mph to Chesterfield, with a yellow weather warning for wind put in place by the Met Office for Derbyshire.

The warning will be in place until the early hours of Thursday, February 17.

By 4:41pm, only 218 homes were without power, with the remaining postcodes still affected including S43 1DH, S43 1DY, S43 1DG, S43 1DF, S43 1DT, S43 1DX, S43 1DU, S43 1DL, S43 2LQ, S43 1DQ, S43 1GB, S43 1DJ and S43 1DZ.
