People in Derby will be able to enjoy the new Moorways Sports Village for under £10 each. A swimming session in the main pool or teaching pools at the £42 million site will cost £5.25 for adults and will be free for under-fives, while a peak hours session in the water park will cost £8.25.
The pricing agreement between Derby City Council and Everyone Active, which will run the facility, means it will cost the same to access the new sports village, in Moor Lane in Allenton, as it would any other leisure facility in the city. Other prices include £6.50 for an hour in the soft play area on weekends, and £5.50 on weekdays.
Councillor Ross McCristal, Derby City Council’s cabinet member for leisure, culture, tourism and wellbeing, said: “It was our intention that Moorways Sports Village should offer the same fantastic value for money as our facilities at Derby Arena and Springwood Leisure Centre and we are pleased to confirm that that is the case, and prices will be consistent with our leisure offer across the city.

“Everyone Active has many years’ experience in running local authority leisure facilities. In addition, the water park, something we’ve never had before, is competitively priced and will attract visitors from all over the region.”
Bowmer and Kirkland, which built the new pool, has handed the keys to Derby City Council ahead of its opening this spring, but an exact date is yet to be announced. The opening will also mark the closure of Queen’s Leisure Centre and the transfer of ownership of Moorways Stadium, which is adjacent to the sports village, to Everyone Active.
It will boast a 50m swimming pool, which can be split into separate 25m pools and has a moveable floor, with three flumes and a “wow ball”, which will create waves. The new facility will also have two soft play areas, a gym, fitness studios, teaching pool, sauna and steam room.
In addition to the prices announced on Friday, March 25, Everyone Active has also agreed to a range of concessionary schemes which mirror those offered by the city council at its other facilities. Simon Fearn, Everyone Active’s regional contract manager, said: “The local community and beyond will get superb value for money when they use this state-of-the-art facility.
“Moorways Sports Village has a range of fantastic activities for everyone, no matter what your age, interests or ability, all at competitive prices. For example, casual swimming is included in the £29.99 monthly membership package, which also encompasses use of the 120-station fitness suite, the extensive instructor-led and virtual group exercise class programme and the health suite. We are so excited to throw open the doors soon and to begin a new chapter for health and wellbeing in Derby.”
