A sportwear brand has opened a new store at a designer outlet shopping village located about an hour’s drive from Derby. Champion has opened its doors at McArthurGlen Designer Outlet West Midlands, in Cannock.
The New York-founded brand welcomed its first customers yesterday, Monday, March 21, and joins the likes of Nike, Adidas, and Castore as sportswear stores that shoppers can visit at the new £160 million complex, which opened last April.
It is the centre’s second store opening of the year following the launch of jewellers Chapelle last month. In celebration of the opening, Champion will be giving away goody bags to the first 100 customers who spend more than £100 in-store.

A spokesperson for the outlet said the Champion branded bags will include a variety of items including a reusable water bottle, stickers and a sanitiser key ring bottle, as well as a lucky dip card which includes prizes ranging from exclusive discounts to free footwear, hoodies and even a couple of complete outfits.
Mike Thomas, centre manager at McArthurGlen Designer Outlet West Midlands, said: “We’re proud to welcome Champion to the growing mix of premium sportswear stores at McArthurGlen Designer Outlet West Midlands. Champion offers stylish sportswear and accessories that we know our customers will love, as they join the outlet alongside popular brands such as Nike, adidas and Castore.”
Mr Thomas told Birmingham Live in late November that it is hoped 12 to 14 more stores will be open by mid-2022, before they look towards the expansion of the centre and the introduction of 50 more stores. Champion joins Chapelle, Puma, Vans, Castore and Carhartt WIP as the latest stores to open at the huge shopping complex.
Other stores already open at the designer outlet include Fred Perry, Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Coach, Radley, Le Creuset and Yankee Candle – while Pizza Express was one of the latest restaurants to open at the site, joining the likes of Five Guys and Wagamama.
Normal opening hours for the centre are from 10am to 8pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm on Saturdays and 10am to 6pm on Sundays. There is of course also a designer outlet shopping village in South Normanton, Derbyshire, where a new Haribo store opened its doors in December. British women’s accessories brand Radley London expanded into a bigger store at the South Normanton-based shopping complex in mid-January.
