A busy restaurant and bar on Park Row in the city centre has applied for a licence to install a pergola with a retractable roof on the side of the property. Visitors to the busy bar will be happy to hear that the venue plans to increase heating to its outdoor area with the installation of integral heating and new glazed doors.
Browns Brasserie and Bar has an outdoor area to the right of the building and at the back where customers can enjoy a nice quiet coffee away from the noise of Maid Marian Way. However, as the temperature changes frequently, the retractable roof will allow visitors to enjoy the sunshine or provide cover at the flick of a switch.
The outdoor area currently has comfortable covered seating with heaters dotted around for warmth. Mitchells & Butlers plc who own and operate Browns have attached a planning permission application to the outside of the building.
Local customers reacted to the news that the outdoor area will get a bit of a revamp with delight although some said it wouldn’t matter to them as they didn’t smoke.

James Brindle has visited Browns in the past and hopes it will encourage people to spend time outdoors.
“I think it’s a really great idea to encourage people to spend time outside and you see it more in the past couple of years but you see it more when you go to other parts of Europe you see people enjoy themselves outside. Anything that allows us to enjoy the weather in semi-fresh air is good,” he said.
Rebecca Morris lives outside of the city centre but has visited Browns before. She would be tempted during the summer months but as a non-smoker, it wouldn’t bother her.
“I don’t smoke so it might not encourage me to go more often but my friends who do smoke might find it more encouraging.”
There are ten different Browns locations across the UK but only one in Nottingham. The popular cocktail spot has been open in the city centre serving breakfast, dinner and bottomless brunches.
It is known for its spacious and atmospheric building in the city centre next to the Playhouse theatre which makes it the perfect location for pre-theatre drinks and dinner.
