Plans have been submitted for the space above two shops in Nottingham to turned into ‘luxury’ student accommodation.
The plans propose the conversation of the upper floors of 497, 499 and 501 Alfreton Road, Radford into 16 studio apartments for students.
Developers have outlined in planning documents that they want to turn the first floor into nine ‘luxury studio’ apartments, which will have a kitchenette, bathroom, as well as bed and wardrobe space.
There are also plans for apartments to have seating areas and a communal area for the residents.
The second floor of apartments would consist of seven further studios, which the planners aim to fit in by extending the building at the rear by creating a new roof.
The ground and basement will continue to be used by the shops that already work out of the properties, which are clothing shop Zibapesh and makeup store Beauty Spot Cosmetics.
In terms of new additions to the buildings, the changes would consist of new roofing that is in line with existing roof ridge and a single storey side will be raised to match new proposed layout.
New windows will be also added on the upper floors, but the existing external staircase would still be used by residents according to the plans.
The planners have said that these external changes are ‘necessary for the success’ of the building and would improve the appearance of of the building and to Alferton Road as a whole.
They have also said that apartments would be high-quality energy efficient apartments, with the design keeping a traditional style using modern sustainable methods of construction.
And that the 16 apartments will help with shortage of housing and encourage usage and investment on other vacant properties in the local area.
The plans are currently pending consideration.
