A group of thrill-seekers have spoken out about the terrifying moment they became stuck on a Skegness Pleasure Beach roller coaster.
Lincolnshire Police descended upon the attraction on Tuesday (August 20) following reports the Super Trooper ride had abruptly stopped. The incident left around 25 riders stranded for almost two hours before they were rescued, with no one having suffered any serious injuries.
People who were caught up in the ordeal have now taken to social media to describe their experiences. In response to a TikTok video showing the incident, one person posted: “i was on that then […] just got off lmao.” Another asked: “What happened did it just stop? Or keep going,” to which the original commenter wrote: “it eventually stopped and we stayed in the air for 2hrs.” She then said the incident unfolded on her birthday.
One user humorously shared how the passengers managed to receive some sustenance even while they were in the air. “I was on this at least they sent us a big mac each by the fire brigade,” they wrote.
“My cousin was stuck on it,” added another, before assuring she was fine but “is not going to a fair for a while”.
In another shared experience on X (previously Twitter), user Chloe disclosed: “My brother was on the super trooper ride at Skegness. His cart ended up with wires hanging out of the back where it broke after carts were smashing into each other and the ride itself. He was the first one off since he was up there for 2 hours alone.”
She later told The Mirror: “It was around two hours but could’ve been two-and-a-half. Time was a little weird cause of the stress and adrenaline. He got down by the firefighters bringing him onto a lift type thing on a long arm on top of the fire truck. They had him climb over the bar and step onto the lift floor to lower him down.
“He’s a little shaken up but he was the one to make people in other carts laugh to calm them down. We’ve all come back to the caravan to let him rest and calm down after everything. He can’t wait to go on another ride though, he loves them so much.”
Following the incident, police said: “We are pleased to report that everyone has been safely rescued and there are no serious injuries. Thank you for your patience whilst we worked through the incident.”
On Wednesday (August 21), James Botton, the managing director of Skegness Pleasure Beach, stated: “Yesterday, unfortunately one of our rides experienced a malfunction. We are pleased to report that all riders were safely rescued, thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of our dedicated staff and the emergency services.
“We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all the emergency services personnel who responded promptly and worked alongside our team to ensure the safety of everyone involved. The safety and well-being of our visitors is our top priority, and we are conducting a full investigation into the cause of the incident. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.”
