A suspected thief was arrested as he tried to flee the country. Officers were hunting a man following the theft of a £1,599 mobile phone from Curry’s at Northgate Retail Park, Newark, on March 24.
Police were on the lookout for an Audi A3 used as a getaway car during the theft. Border Force officials and Kent Police stopped the vehicle for having no insurance on Tuesday, April 5.
The driver was arrested after checks linked the car to the theft at Curry’s. The 20-year-old man was taken into custody and transferred to Nottinghamshire Police for questioning. Detective Inspector Nick Hall said: “Shop thefts of this nature can have a really serious impact even on the biggest businesses and we are working hard every day to tackle them.
“Part of that work is focussed on tracking down suspects and we are grateful to Kent Police and Border Force officers for their assistance in apprehending the suspect. We work very closely and proactively with our partners and border agencies to tackle all forms of crime, as this arrest clearly demonstrates.”
He has since been released under investigation while inquires continue.
