A teenager has been arrested after a police chase which led to a three-vehicle crash. Just before 9.50am on Sunday, August 4, the driver of a silver Vauxhall Meriva failed to stop for police officers in Lincoln and officers engaged in a pursuit.
The driver travelled the wrong way around the Lincoln bypass roundabouts and took police on a lengthy chase before a crash was reported at the junction of Thorndyke Way and Corringham Road, Gainsborough. The crash involved the silver Meriva, a black Mercedes saloon and a black Mercedes SUV.
Police say the driver and passenger of the black Mercedes saloon were taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be serious. The passenger of the silver Meriva was taken to hospital with injuries described as serious while the driver and only occupant of the black Mercedes SUV was not injured.

During the police pursuit, the Meriva driver rammed a marked BMW police car and a crow bar, which is believed to have been thrown from the Meriva, became lodged into the police car’s front bumper. A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, attempt to cause grievous bodily harm and burglary. He remains in custody.
Officers are now appealing for information. A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision and from anyone who has dashcam footage of the Meriva as it failed to stop for police between Lincoln and Gainsborough.”
On Sunday, Detective Superintendent Richard Myszczyszyn of Lincolnshire Police said: “We will be completing a full and detailed investigation into the events of this morning. It’s too early to update with any more information and investigations of this nature take a considerable length of time.
“We will be interviewing the man arrested and speaking to witnesses, we will provide updates when we have information to share. As this is an ongoing criminal investigation, I ask that speculation is avoided, it is not helpful to those involved and may prejudice the investigation.”
Lincolnshire Police has referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct which it says is “standard procedure in a case of this nature”.
