Young teens arrested after car ‘driven erratically and found damaged’

Two teens were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor in a South Derbyshire suburb. The Swadlincote Safer Neighbourhood Team received reports of the vehicle being stolen on Pine Grove, Newhall in Swadlincote.

Police said a further report came 26 minutes later of the vehicle being driven erratically around the area. Officers said the car was then damaged on Oversetts Road. Officers from the force say they arrested a 13 and 15-year-old minutes later on suspicion of theft of the motor, but were released whilst investigations continue.

A spokesperson for Swadlincote SNT said: “At around 21.10pm on Thursday 17 March we were called to a report of a Nissan Micra that had been stolen in Pine Grove, Newhall. “A further report came in at 21.36 hrs that the Micra was being driven erratically and then being damaged on Oversetts Road.

“Lpu officers from group 1& 3 were deployed and within minutes a 13- & 15-year-old were arrested near by on suspicion of theft of the motor. Both have been released under investigation. “We are appealing for anyone who might have dash cam footage, seen or witnessed the vehicle being stolen, driven or damaged reference number 22*155297.”
